Minimalist wool skirt suit, ca. 1943

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

This powder blue three-piece wool suit is associated with Mabel Graney, who may have worn it for her wedding. The jacket features a Peter Pan collar, long sleeves, and five self-covered buttons down the front. The sleeves are fitted with turned-back cuffs and covered buttons. The jacket is unlined and includes shoulder pads.

The skirt has a wide waistband, pleated in the center of both the front and back. It fastens with a side zipper and two hook-and-eye closures on the waistband. The skirt has a slight flare, is unlined, and includes interior tapes to keep the pleats in place.
