Description
Alice Blake Williams (1893-1983) and her husband, Dr. James Williams (Jim), lived in Jonesport during the so-called Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-1919. Dr. Williams and Dr. John Moulton (referred to as "John" in the letter) were partners serving the medical needs of Jonesport, Kelley Point and Beals Island.
Alice Williams wrote to her mother Annie Cromwell Blake (1872-1945) with news of her life during those troubling times and references correspondence from Frances Blake Foote. Alice's granddaughter later recalled that her grandmother said that her husband "spent day and night going house to house among the islands tending to the sick. She saw the wagons go by with those who had passed."
