Description
The three-masted schooner Golden Ball was built in the David Clark shipyard on the Kennebunk River at Kennebunkport.
It was built for Captain Paul Gibbs of New Bedford, Massachusetts. It was launched on 31 July 1890. The photograph shows the Golden Ball in the river on its launching day.
Behind it is the shipyard and the South Congregational Church. The shipyard office, a small, white building that stands in line with the church's steeple, is now on the grounds of the Kennebunkport Historical Society on North Street.
The trailboard of the Golden Ball now hangs in the Louis T. Graves Memorial Library in Kennebunkport.
