Description
This home, built close to the Kennebec River in the area called Days Ferry, was called the Robert White Tavern. Isaac Smith originally built it, and he sold it to Robert White, who operated it. Gould Hathorne next owned the business, serving travelers taking the Old Stage Road to Wiscasset after being ferried across the Kennebec.
The main building, in the Federal style, dates from the early 19th century when Commodore Joseph Warren Hathorne adapted it as a home for his brother and sister. As of 2021, it remains a private residence. The building across the street was A. B. Thwings General Store.
