Description
Middle Street in Portland featured the Merchant Exchange building that later became the customs office and the post office. The Merchant Exchange building was an example of Greek revival architecture.
The Merchant Exchange building was built between 1836 and 1839 and burned in January of 1854. Located at Middle and Exchange Streets, the building stood in the 2021 site of Tommy's Park.
