Description
A manuscript copy of an 1802 survey, originally created for the Plymouth Company, also known as the Kennebec Proprietors. A note next to the compass rose reads "A plan of a survey of sundry settlers' lots in Sheepscut [sic] Great Pond Settlement made (for the use of the Proprietors [of] the Kennebec Purchase and the Settlers) under the Resolve of the 19th February 1802." It depicts the modern-day town of Palermo.
On October 10, 1803, the survey's chairmen and surveyors, Abraham Burnell, Jonathan Greeley, Reuben Fairfield and Bradstreet Wiggin attested to its accuracy. Names of landholders, plot numbers, and acreage appear in the included legend.
This particular copy was created from the 1802 survey held with the Secretary of Massachusetts. The Deputy Secretary of Massachusetts, Charles W. Lovett, certified the copy's accuracy on January 3, 1873.
