Contributed by Mantor Library at UMF

Description

Seated on the main steps of Merrill Hall were the Farmington Normal School’s 1898 baseball team. Until the post-World War II years, the school did not have a formal college sports program so the Normal School team played other local teams.

This photo is one of the earliest showing a baseball team wearing school uniforms.

Pictured from left to right with the positions they played are:
Fred Warren (3rd base), Elmer Randall (center field), Green (first base), Stephen H. Pinkham (shortstop), Charles Turner (catcher), Frank Day (second base), Chester W. Teele (right field), George C. Purington, Jr. (pitcher and left field), Lemond (left field and pitcher) and Foss (mascot).
