Description
This fragment of a wallpaper border is said to have hung in Montpelier, the Thomaston mansion built by Major General Henry Knox in 1794.
It was probably purchased from George Betrault of Philadelphia, a French upholsterer.
The full border featured landscape scenes alternating with Grecian figures. This piece shows evidence of having been hung over a plain yellow paper, probably also purchased from Betrault.
