Description
Margaret Richardson (1883-1964), aged 14, dressed up in her grandmother Mercy Owen Richardson's wedding dress. Mercy Owen Richardson (1810-1884), a cousin to poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, married Edward Richardson in 1832 at Portland, Maine's First Unitarian Church (First Parish). Their son, George Eliot Richardson was Margaret's father.
An inscription on the reverse reads "Mamma, from her loving daughter, Margaret Richardson, about 14 years old, in wedding dress, Mercy Owen Richardson..." The inscription alludes to the shoes, gloves, lace cape and comb being part of the original ensemble. The initials "SLDR" are also on the reverse, likely for Margaret's mother, Sarah Law Devoll Richardson.
