Description
Transitional in its fashions, this doll demonstrated a shift towards softer silhouettes and the popularity of striped fabrics, both of which emerged during the Regency Period (1795-1837). The hat style with its long beak which covered the face, known as a "poke bonnet," finds its origins in this period. The hat style remained popular well into the 19th century.
While the doll represents circa 1795 fashions, it is unclear when it was made, perhaps after 1820. The doll is one in a set of eight Early Republic-era fashion dolls.
