Description
This manuscript map outlines geographic features and landmarks for an area along the Strait of Detroit, also known as the Detroit River. Mentioned designations include Hog Island, Huron Church and Huron Village, Cranberry Marsh, Turkey Island, Amherstburg, Big Marsh, Blue Jacket, Mongwago, and Lake Erie, as well as names of individuals and locations.
British surveyor David Thompson and his son Samuel Thompson, along with American surveyor William A. Bird made maps for the region, as part of the Treaty of Ghent's 6th article, undertaken between 1817 and 1827.
