Description
The Treaty of Paris in 1783 formally ended the American Revolution. Several articles of the treaty outlined boundaries. After the War of 1812 and the Treaty of Ghent (1814), commissioners were selected from both the British and American sides to clarify the northeastern border.
Titled "Islands by Treaty of 1783 for the first time annexed to the United States from which are excepted such as belong to Nova Scotia," the map includes islands off the "coast of the United States," "islands always part of Massachusetts," and "an imaginary line 10 leagues from shore, which was the Province Boundary of Massachusetts."
These items are part of a larger archive, the Thomas Barclay collection (Coll. 26).
