Description
Maine artists Madeline Burrage and her sister, Mildred Burrage, visited Mexico and Guatemala in 1935 and 1936. This photo accompanied Madeleine's passport. They visited rural communities and archaeological sites in both countries.
Madeleine Burrage was a skilled cook, a gemologist, and jeweler who worked precious and semi-precious stones in gold and silver. The cultural influences of Mexican and Guatemalan jewelry are notable in Madeleine's artwork.
