Description
Charles West waiting for game, ca. 1895.
West wrote in his 1894 book Aroostook Woods, "We concluded to build us a rookery up among the branches of the trees, high enough, that the breezes should not notify the deer and caribou of our presence in their feeding grounds. Accordingly, a Boston boy and your humble servant, built us what we called the 'Aerial Blind.' ... The situation showed four lumber roads coming into one, and that the main road to the landing on the stream. This we considered one of the best stands for the game, as the deer and caribou both love to wander up and down the old woods roads, feeding upon the young sprouts from the old cuttings. ...
