Architecture & Landscape commission for C. L. Baxter at 2 Storer Street in Portland, ME, 1901–1945. The commission is associated with John Calvin Stevens. This item is part of the Stevens Architects drawings and records collection.
Daveis Hall, on the Waynflete School campus in Portland's West End, was built as a private home in 1860. The original owner was Henry Hart Furbish. John Calvin Stevens designed alterations to the house in 1901. Governor Percival P. Baxter's brother Clinton was a longtime resident. His wife, Ethel Fox Butler, had grown up in the house. Their daughter, Ellen Baxter Moyer, graduated from Waynflete in 1901. Waynflete purchased the house in 1942.
