White vinyl loafers, South Portland, ca. 1975

Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

Taking its inspiration from house shoes, the slip-on loafer trend exploded in the mid-20th century after companies like Maine’s G.H. Bass popularized the look. Gingiss Formalwear offered this pair of vinyl loafers with a black rubber heel for rent at its South Portland location. The same location rented corresponding white or powder blue tuxedos.
