Description
This image appeared in a 1942 issue of the "Portland Press Herald" with the caption “Miss Jean A. Anderson of West Falmouth, formerly Berlin, N.H. first woman to handle Cushman Baking Company sales route in Portland, displays one of the many products she carries to customers on her daily route.” Anderson was only 18 years old at the time. Two years later, Cushman’s promoted Jean to route manager, where she taught other women to drive their own routes.
