Description

This card, which commemorated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, has a piece of the original Chestnut tree which stood in front of the village smithy in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This chestnut tree was immortalized in Longfellow's poem, "The Village Blacksmith." Longfellow, who was born in Portland, Maine, spent most of his adult life in Cambridge. This leaflet was presented to the Wadsworth-Longfellow House by William A. Mason.
