Description
Second District Congresswoman Olympia J. Snowe served Maine as senator from 1995 to 2013. A Republican, Snowe was known as a moderate, occasionally speaking out against her own party. Time magazine named Snowe one of the nation's best senators in 2006.
Snowe retired in 2013, citing hyper-partisanship and a dysfunctional Congress for her reasons to leave the Senate.
