Description
When the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Navy proposed closing the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 2005, workers and community members successfully mobilized to "Save our Shipyard."
The Seacoast Shipyard Association, established in 1964, advocates for the Portland Naval Shipyard, also called the Portsmouth Navy Yard. The shipyard straddles the Maine-New Hampshire border in the towns of Kittery and Portsmouth.
