Pejepscot Company Records, Volume 10, 1670-1840

Description

Volume 10 of the Pejepscot Proprietors Papers is a compilation of manuscript material created and collected by the proprietors. Volume 10 was most likely organized by John McKeen and later cataloged and bound into a physical volume for ease of access. In 1864, the Librarian and staff at Maine Historical Society arranged the papers for easier consultation by town, subject, and date.

This volume includes records that pertain to Fort George, Maquait Canal, Small Point (Augusta), Dummer Sewall's journal, settlement of Brunswick and Topsham, transfers of land, land disputes with settlers and rival land companies. Also included are depositions in regard to the dispute with the Kennebec Proprietors.

This volume is part of a larger archival collection (Coll. 61), which is completely digitized. To search the entire collection visit our Beyond Borders search page.
