Description
This Queen Anne Chair was made of walnut with pine secondary, cabriole legs ending in pad feet, turned stretchers, balloon seat. It was acquired by the donor from descendants of Reverend Joseph Moody of York and was part of the furnishings of the Moody-Neal House on Ridge Road just outside of York Village.
Although based on Boston-area designs, it is similar in style and construction to chairs constructed by York cabinetmaker Major Samuel Sewall (1724-1814).
This is similar to set of chairs owned by Jonathan Sayward (1713-1797) of York, also believed to have been made by Samuel Sewall.
