Description
A horse and wagon stand in front of the Wadsworth-Longfellow House on Congress Street in Portland in about 1890.
Peleg and Elizabeth Wadsworth built the house in 1785-86 and raised their 10 children there. Stephen and Zilpah Wadsworth Longfellow raised their family in the house, adding a third story in 1815.
When the photo was taken, Anne Longfellow Pierce lived in the house. She donated it to the Maine Historical Society in 1901.
