Description
Made by Eliphalet Grover (1778-1855), while lighthouse keeper at Boon Island (1816-1839), York. Other items made by Grover in collections.
Pine box with hinged cover. Mahogany, cherry and maple veneer cut to create human profiles with great detail on each side. Top decorated in each corner with painted eagle with crest on stomach. Brass handle on cover. Interior lined with newspaper. Shield-shaped veneer around keyhole.
