Description
This photograph of the Wadsworth-Longfellow House in Portland, was taken in about 1928.
Built by Elizabeth and Peleg Wadsworth (1748-1829) in 1785-85 as their family home, it was also home to their daughter and son-in-law, Zilpah and Stephen Longfellow.
Their son Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), was a noted poet. Their daughter Anne Longfellow Pierce (1810-1901) donated the house to the Maine Historical Society to serve as a memorial to her brother.
