Description
Congress Street and the area around Monument Square in Portland are pictured in about 1885. A horse-drawn trolley is in the foreground.
At left is Lancaster Hall, built in 1858 and demolished in 1881. The trees at right are in front of the Preble House and the fence in front of the Wadsworth-Longfellow house is visible to the left of the Preble House.
