Contributed by Maine Historical Society

Description

David K. Quinn, owner of Acorn Products Co. of Lewiston, and the employer of 14 persons, recently got a boost in his business when astronauts wore his slipper socks. Unknown to Quinn, the socks were first worn by astronauts Hartsfield and Mattingly on Columbia's July 1982 flight, and again on a four-man flight. Quinn had sent 24 pairs of the socks to the Johnson Space Center for the astronauts use.
