Description
Four dresses from the 1840s. From left is a one piece purple changeable silk tafetta dress, pointed waisted, gathered full skirt, padded bodice, round neck. Cap sleeves have undersleeve which is full at the bottom.
Next shown is a child's dress of printed cotton on loan from the Old York Historical Society. Next is a wedding dress and the dress on the far right is of mauve plaid silk, also on loan from Old York Historical Society.
These dresses are pictured at "Godey's Ladies: An Exhibition of 19th-Century Dresses" held in 1986 at the Brick Store Museum.
Godey's Lady's Book, from which this exhibition was named, was one of the most popular lady's books of the 19th century including poetry, beautiful engravings and articles of import.
