Description
Thomas Goldthwait was born in Massachusetts in 1717. By the 1740s he was a successful merchant and the Constable of Boston.
Goldthwait served as the Paymaster General and agent for the Crown Point expedition in 1760, and later as the Secretary of War for Massachusetts Bay and then as Commander of Fort Pownall.
Goldthwait's military career was ruined by controversy over his possible loyalty to the British crown, and he died in exile in England in 1799.
