Description
"The early Portland Company-built horse-drawn steam engine 'Falmouth No. 2' was built in 1861 for the city of Portland, Maine, at a cost of $3,327.78 as a first-class, or 600-gallon-per-minute, fire engine. It was the Portland Fire Department's second steam fire engine and weighed in at a very hefty 8,755 pounds. This engine later became No. 4." --Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1856-1982.'
