Description
Nathan Clifford was born in New Hampshire in 1803. In 1827 he moved to Newfield where he served in the Maine State Legislature for four terms. He was appointed as the U.S. Attorney General by President Polk, and returned to Maine in 1849, where he was appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by Franklin Pierce. He served in this position for twenty-three years, until his death in 1881.
