Description
Mary McLellan's headstone at Eastern Cemetery in Portland shows a skull and crossbones, the symbol of death with wings, usually a sign of the flight into eternity.
Mary Means McLellan (1740-1764) married William McLellan. The inscription on the headstone reads: Here lies y Body of
Mrs. Mary McLellan
wife of Capt. William
McLellan, who died
Feb the 24th 1764
In the 24th. Year
of her Age.
