Description
Augusta May (Walker) Stanley (1848-1927) relaxes on the porch of a rustic cabin at Tim Pond Camps in Eustis in the summer of 1906 or 1907.
Born and raised in New Portland, where she taught school, Mrs. Stanley was married to a fellow teacher, Francis Edgar Stanley (1849-1918) of Kingfield.
The Stanleys also taught at the Maine State Reform School in South Portland and at the public school in Strong, before retiring to the Lewiston area where F.E. Stanley became a portrait artist and photographer, and founded the Stanley Dry Plate Co. with his twin brother, Freelan Oscar Stanley (1849-1940).
The Stanleys moved their business to Watertown, Mass., in 1890 and eventually sold out to Eastman Kodak and concentrated on manufacturing steam automobiles.
Tim Pond was one of the Stanley family's favorite summer retreats.
