Description
Isabella Fogg was one of hundreds of Maine women who volunteered to care for wounded and sick soldiers during the Civil War. She was largely responsible for the formation of the Maine Sanitary Commission, which coordinated medical and other supplies for soldiers, especially those from Maine.
Fogg permanently injured her spine in an accident aboard the navy steamer Jacob Strader in 1865.
