Jonathan Morgan plea for loan for steam canal boat, 1871

Description

Jonathan Morgan of Portland, who had invented two unsuccessful steam boats in the 1810s sought a loan from the Ancient Landmark Lodge to enter a contest sponsored by the state of New York for a steam canal boat.

He sought the loan in 1871, which was the year he died at age 93.
