Description
Cider Press in Lovell, 1892. From left are J. Emery, Wesley Heald and Alonzo D. Seavy.
"Among early colonists the apple orchard was an integral part of every homestead, not only for food, but also for drink. Hard cider was the national drink, being served at every meal. Like most rural towns, Lovell had many homemade cider mills and even in the 1890s most town families had a barrel or two of cider in the basement."-Living in Lovell: The Fall Harvest.
