Description
In 1836 the Oxford Bank in Fryeburg was organized, but never opened for business.
In 1839 an attempt was made in Portland to float notes from this non-functioning institution as part of a swindling scheme. This is an example of one of those notes.
On the face of the dollar the god of commerce and wealth, Mercury, is watching over the business.
