Description
John Gunnelsen was admitted as a member of the Hallowell Division No. 5 of the Sons of Temperance, a brotherhood of men who promoted the temperance movement. Throughout Maine the temperance movement sparked individual interest and a variety of local societies. Some were independent, while others linked to national and state movements or organizations.
