Description
Bernd Heinrich’s professional research focused on the behavior of insects. After moving back to his home state of Maine, Heinrich began studying the ecology of insects and animals, and how they interact.
Heinrich uses sketches of observations, rather than collecting specimens, to inform his artwork for scientific writings and over 23 books of nature. He painted this watercolor for the 2014 book, The Homing Instinct: Meaning & Mystery in Animal Migration.
