Description
William A. Allen wrote to "Friend Bent" (Benton Emery) from Camp Seward in Baltimore. He discussed seeing Black people and "Dixies land" for the first time.
Allen, of Sanford, was 20 when he enlisted in Co. E. of the 27th Maine Infantry on September 30, 1862. He was mustered out on July 17, 1863.
