Description
This note was written to explain a trunk sent cross-country on rail lines by Henry Thurston Clark. He had also shipped a valise cross-country in 1872.
"This valise was the first piece of baggage checked from Halifax, N.S. to San Francisco Cal. and was returned to Halifax. It left Halifax Aug 14th 1873, arrived at Omaha Aug 19th, detained there by [missing word] 23 days and arrived in San Francisco on Sept. 15th. It was returned in 8 days. [Missing] traveled 7960 miles in its journey. This valise was sent by Henry T. Clark, Genl. [Missing] Agent of the E. & N.A. Railway [missing]"
