Description
Maude M. Burrowes graduated from Portland High School in 1885. One of eight children of John Wesley and Henrietta Lowther Sumner Burrowes, she married John L. Barker in 1891. They had three children.
John Burrowes, who was English, was born in Ireland in 1844 and came to Portland about 1865 via Sherbrooke, Quebec, with his brother William.
They were in the building trades. John Burrowes was the contractor for Portland High School, the Baxter Library, Grand Trunk Railway, and other buildings.
