Description
To compete with the growing competition from trucks, in 1956 Bangor & Aroostook Railroad instituted door-to-door delivery for "Less than a Carload" shipments for every community along B & A lines.
In the picture the B & A truck is stopped on Maine Street in Houlton to make a delivery. The power tailgate made quick and easy deliveries possible. Bangor and Aroostook Railroad's magazine, "Maine Line," v. 4 #4, pp. 22-24.
