Description

The Bramhall Reservoir was built in 1869 in order to provide a reliable and sufficient water supply for Portland. The need for an abundant water supply in Portland was emphasized by the fire of 1866, which destroyed one-third of Portland.

The reservoir was used until 1964. By this point, the City was already being served by the Portland Water District, which supplied water to Portland, South Portland, Westbrook and other local cities and towns.
