Description
This photograph is the view looking east from the roof of Maine General Hospital on Bramhall Street in Portland. The reservoir, located on Bramhall, Brackett and Vaughan streets, was built in 1869 and had an 8,000,000 gallon capacity. Water was piped into Portland from Sebago Lake.
The reservoir was used by the City of Portland until 1964.
Today, the parking lot for Maine Medical Center stands in its location.
