Description
One of the most important tools in any 19th century New England shipyard. Many an L. White tool has been recycled to Maine woodworkers in the last 30 years by the Liberty Tool Company.
Size: 24" long, 14" blade, 4 1/2" handle.
This mast shave was made and signed by "I.H.L. White, Buffalo, NY" (1837f.), a most prolific maker of cooperÂ’s jiggers, draw knives and other edge tools.
A mastshave is a large and heavy variety of the Carpenter's Drawing knife with a straight, flat blade used for trimming masts and spars.
