Description
Neal Woodside Allen (1885-1976), son of Charles W. and Ida G. Allen, poses in a photo taken in about 1892. Allen, a 1907 graduate of Bowdoin College, was a longtime Portland auctioneer and a civic activist.
Allen, pictured here at about age seven or eight, wears a popular turn-of-the-century young boy's style. The flamboyant trimmed short-pant suit, with a ruffled shirt, large cuffs and collar, was known as a Little Lord Fauntleroy suit, named after a popular children’s novel. The Lord Fauntleroy trend was popular between 1880 and 1900.
