Description
Weld Noble Allen (1837-1875), was born in Alfred. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1855 and commanded a navy gunboat in the 1860s.
His parents were William Cutler Allen and Lucy Maria Holmes. His father was a prominent lawyer and legislator.
A marble and brass memorial to Allen is located at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland.
