Description
In 1929 Bangor and Aroostook Railroad purchased three American Locomotive Company "Mountain" 4-8-2 engines. With 63 inch diameter drive wheels and weighing over 550,000 pounds with a fully loaded tender, these engines pulled both fast freight and heavy passenger trains.
The white flag indicates that it was an "extra," that is, an extra train added to the regularly scheduled freight trains.
