Description

William Widgery Thomas Jr., who served as ambassador to Sweden and Norway and Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives, captured a photograph of the Thomas Brackett Reed monument on Portland's Western Promenade.

Reed, a dominant figure in Maine's late nineteenth-century political scene, served as the 32nd Speaker of the House of Representatives, earning renown for his oratory and strong convictions. Both Thomas and Reed attended Bowdoin College.
